![]() ![]() I recommend a system of dialogue that allows any NPC to have an opening statement, such as "Hello, what can I do for you?" and then branching dialogue options that the player can choose from there that the creator of the campaign can make such as choosing between "How are you?" and "What can you tell me about this place?" for example, which would each have a separate answer from the NPC, and those answers would each have different reply options that the Player can choose from, and repeat. ![]() There are many layers of complexity one can put into a dialogue system, which mainly depends upon how much work one wants to put into their narrative systems. Games like Sword Coast Legends have overly simplified this by only allowing the creator of the campaign to assign one block of text to an NPC to have some flavor text for giving dungeon crawling quests, but this is a very shallow system and does not allow much story development or connection with the world and characters. My first thought for Campaign Creation is that a good dialogue system will be extremely important as it is the basis of connection with the world and its characters. ![]()
